【摘要】:Granularactivatedcarbon(GAC)iscommonlyusedtoremovecontaminantsfromwater.Howeverifnotusedproperly,GACcannotonlybeexpensivebutcanattimesbeineffective.Thedevelopmentofengineeringdataforthedesignoffull-scaleadsorbersoftenrequirestime-consumingandexpensivepilotplantstudies.Thisrapidstandardpracticehasbeendevelopedtopredictadsorptioninlarge-scaleadsorbersbaseduponresultsfromsmallcolumntesting.Incontrasttopilotplantstudies,thesmall-scalecolumntestpresentedinthispracticedoesnotallowforarunningevaluationoffactorsthatmayaffectGACperformanceovertime.Suchfactorsmayinclude,forexample,anincreasedremovaloftargetcompoundsbybacterialcolonizingGACorlongtermfoulingofGACcausedbyinorganiccompoundsorbackgroundorganicmatter.Nevertheless,thispracticeoffersmorerelevantoperationaldatathanisothermtestingwithouttheprincipaldrawbacksofpilotplantstudies,namelytimeandexpense;andunlikepilotplantstudies,smallscalestudiescanbeperformedinalaboratoryusingwatersampledfromaremotelocation.Thispracticeknownastherapidsmall-scalecolumntest(RSSCT)usesemptybedcontacttime(EBCT)andhydraulicloadingtodescribetheadsorptionprocess.MeancarbonparticlediameterisusedtoscaleRSSCTresultstopredicttheperformanceofafull-scaleadsorber.Thispracticecanbeusedtocomparetheeffectivenessofdifferentactivatedcarbonsfortheremovalofcontaminantsfromacommonwaterstream.1.1Thispracticecoversatestmethodfortheevaluationofgranularactivatedcarbon(GAC)fortheadsorptionofsolublepollutantsfromwater.Thispracticecanbeusedtoestimatetheoperatingcapacitiesofvirginandreactivatedgranularactivatedcarbons.Theresultsobtainedfromthesmall-scalecolumntestingcanbeusedtopredicttheadsorptionoftargetcompoundsonGACinalargecolumnorfullscaleadsorberapplication.1.2Thispracticecanbeappliedtoalltypesofwaterincludingsyntheticallycontaminatedwater(preparedbyspikinghighpuritywaterwithselectedcontaminants),potablewaters,industrialwastewaters,sanitarywastesandeffluentwaters.1.3Thispracticeisusefulforthedeterminationofbreakthroughcurvesforspecificcontaminantsinwater,thedeterminationofthelengthsoftheadsorbatesmasstransferzones(MTZ)andthepredictionofGACusageratesforlargerscaleadsorbers.1.4Thefollowingsafetycaveatappliestotheproceduresection,Section10,ofthispractice:Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
